So when the shit went down last Sunday it was all kind of exciting. A porsche doesn't catch on fire outside your house every day.
The Fire Brigade spent probably the best part of an hour trying to put this out. Everytime it stopped it would flare up again. Fuel was running down the road and it caught on fire so the road itself was burning.
Here is an article from The Newcastle Herald:
"A PORSCHE was destroyed by fire in Charlestown yesterday.
The driver, who wanted to be known only as Keith, said he grabbed his daughter, 2, out of the back seat and ran as soon as he saw the fireball engulfing the 1972 Porsche 911's rear end.
"I pulled up at the lights and it stalled, which is very unusual for it, and when I turned the key I just heard this huge bang and then suddenly it went up," he said.
"Out the back there must have been about three to five metres of fuel on fire, leaking out down the road so I grabbed my daughter out of the back seat and we just ran."
Firefighters said the fire started in the car's rear after it pulled up at the intersection of Hillsborough and Charlestown roads about 3.30pm.
They are still investigating the cause of the blaze, but believe it may have been started by a fault with the fuel lines.
Fuel spilled from the engine, leaving a pool of burning fuel behind the car.
Firefighters took more than an hour to extinguish the blaze, which had quickly spread to the engine, igniting it and engulfing the car.
Keith, who bought the vintage Porsche about a year ago, said his only concern had been getting his daughter to safety.
Meanwhile, a woman escaped unharmed after her car crashed into bush on the Pacific Highway near Bulahdelah. Minutes later, three people suffered minor injuries in a three-car smash about a kilometre away."
Now I am kind of pissed off I didn't sell the pics to the paper. Oh well. At least everyone was ok.
